Players for slice of TV Cash

Friday April 18 2008
DUBLIN footballer Colin Moran doesn't believe inter-county players will be looking for a slice of the TV revenue pie despite the fact that the GAA is taking in more than ever from that source, WRITES DONNCHADH BOYLE.
The Association issued tenders for a number of packages this year with TV3 being awarded one of those for the first time ever.
That package includes Dublin's Leinster championship quarter-final clash with Louth on June 8 which will be the first live football game shown on the channel.
"I've been at a lot of the GPA AGMs over the years and players have never really been looking for professionalism and have openly spoken about it," Moran said yesterday.
"I think the grants issue was about legitimate expenses and it's great to have that put to bed. I don't see that there is a visible push from players after a slice of the pie of TV monies.
"In fairness to the GAA they have used the money that has come in to invest heavily in pitches all over the country and there are huge developments being made in clubs."
The Dublin star, who attended yesterday's launch of the 2008 Opel GPA awards, added: "While floodlighting and all-weather surfaces are major issues [also], the money that has come in is trickling down to the clubs."
